TV is one of life’s greatest guilty pleasures. From sports to movies to shows to music, TV has the market on entertainment cornered. But with the realities of work, family, and life in general, there is often little time to sit down, relax, and catch up on your favorite shows, games, or movies.

 

Thankfully, there’s an app for that. With the ever-expanding technology of mobile phones, tablets, and e-readers, people are able to stay up-to-date on all of their favorites while on the go. Available anytime and anywhere (as long as you have your iPhone), here are the top streaming apps for your TV enjoyment:

 

1. DIRECTV

There are two apps available for DIRECTV users, offering customers as many options as possible. By downloading the DIRECTV app, mobile users can stream live TV anywhere within the home, as well as select channels outside of the home. Customers can access On Demand movies and TV shows from primetime channels as well as premier channels like HBO, Cinemax, Starz, and Encore. Additionally, customers can access their DVR recording directly through their phone.

 

The second app available is DIRECTV GenieGO, an app that allows Genie customers the ability to watch any DVR recorded items without an Internet connection. Watch them on the plane, subway, metro, train, etc. And, up to five mobile devices can be watching simultaneously.

 

2. Netflix

If you have a Netflix account, you can access Netflix’s instant TV and movie library digitally. Netflix’s content library is diverse and ever changing, offering Netflix users a wide variety ranging from indie films to documentaries to new releases. Netflix does require either Wi-Fi or a cell signal in order for user’s to stream Netflix’s content digitally.

 

3. Amazon Instant

This is Amazon’s own streaming service, offered to its Amazon Prime customers (a yearly subscription to access Amazon’s more exclusive features). Non-prime customers can still download this app, but they will have to pay for each rental or purchase.

 

4. Snagfilms

The Snagfilms app houses indie, award-winning films. Film buffs will be particlarly taken with this app because its library is filled with eclectic movies that competing streaming apps do not offer. This app also allows users a “MyStuff” section where users can browse and save interesting movies for later.

 

5. Crackle

Crackle is also known as the nostalgia-streaming app. The library is filled with a diverse selection of classics or cancelled shows like Seinfeld and The Shield, allowing users to get their fix of all of their old favorites shows and classic movies. In addition, similar to their counterparts of Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon, Crackle is trying out original shows that are only available on their network.

 

6. Watch ABC

For fans of Grey’s Anatomy, Modern Family, Once Upon a Time, The Bachelor and all other ABC shows and sports games, the Watch ABC app allows people to catch up on missed shows. The app also allows viewers to watch ABC shows live. However, current shows are only available to stream through the app via selective satellite and cable companies.
